Ms. Collins is the former Wilson Elkins Professor of Sociology at the University of Maryland and is currently a Distinguished University Professor.  She's author of several books, including "Fighting Words," "Black Sexual Politics," and "From Black Power to Hip Hop."  Ms. Collins' articles have been published in The Nation, Newsday and the New York Times.
