These events happened during the breakup of the Soviet Union and the end of Soviet Communism.

Susan Eisenhower is a policy consultant and the President of the Eisenhower Group, Inc.  Ms. Eisenhower is the granddaughter of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower.  She is also the author of "Mrs. Ike: Portrait of a Marriage," and "Partners in Space: US-Russian Cooperation After the Cold War."
