Charles Bowden chronicles the murders that have plagued Juarez, Mexico over the past several years.  Once heralded as an economic success story and a beneficiary of NAFTA, the city is now one of the most violent and corrupt places in the world.  Mr. Bowden spoke at the Los Angeles Public Library.

Charles Bowden is the author of numerous books, including Down by the River and A Shadow in the City.  He is the recipient of the Lannan Literary Award for Nonfiction.  Mr. Bowden is currently a contributing editor for Mother Jones and GQ and writes for other publications, including Harper's Magazine.
