About the Program
Kristen Iversen recounts her childhood in Arvada, Colorado, adjacent to the Rocky Flats nuclear weaponry facility, which produced over 70,000 plutonium triggers for nuclear bombs. Using elements of memoir writing and investigative journalism, the author examines the affect the plant had on the environment and what the U.S. government did not divulge to the local populace. Ms. Iversen utilized EPA and FBI documents, interviews, and class-action testimony to better understand the operations at Rocky Flats, which ceased operation in 1992. Kristen Iversen speaks at Elliott Bay Book Company in Seattle.
