About the Program
Historian Henry Wiencek examines Thomas Jefferson's relationship to slavery. Mr. Wiencek reports that Jefferson sought financial gain through the ownership and labor of his slaves, what America's third president called "silent profits." The author utilized recent archeological findings at Jefferson's estate, Monticello, and Jefferson's papers in his research. Henry Wiencek speaks at the Jefferson Library at Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia.
