About the Program

Maya Jasanoff, associate history professor at Harvard University, presents a history of Americans loyal to the British Empire following the Revolutionary War.  The author recounts that 60,000 or 1 in 40 Americans were loyalists and feared retribution following America's victory in their war for independence.  Ms. Jasanoff reports that many loyalists fled their homes for other locales under the British Empire, including Canada, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Britain.   Maya Jasanoff discusses her book at the Harvard Book Store in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Maya Jasanoff

Maya Jasanoff is an associate history professor at Harvard University.  She is the author of Edge of Empire: Lives, Culture, and Conquest in the East, 1750-1850.  Her writing has appeared in several publications, including The Economist, The New York Times Magazine, and the London Review of Books
